WHAT ARE MUNDUS STONES?
“Do you know what Mundus stones are?” This is one of the first questions experienced players ask the newer players. In most cases new players are not aware of these, despite playing other Elder Scrolls games, and don’t know how powerful the effects are.
Every new character you create starts without a Mundus Stone. Most players will quest and explore Tamriel without a Mundus Stone for a while. Newer players just don’t know about it, and experienced players sometimes forget about it. The game doesn’t really tell you about Mundus Stones as part of the tutorials and combat hints. If a player reads the manual, aka Help menu, it gives them a brief overview of Mundus Stones. (What kind of psychopath reads the manual?) Most new players find out about Mundus Stones by chance, simply by exploring the world. The Lady is the most common stone because it is the closest Mundus Stone to the starting cities of each base game alliance.

Once a player finds a Mundus Stone they might activate it and not really understand what happened. Most newer players just click on it because it gives them a prompt to do so and as they find other stones, applying the new stone as they find one. This overrides the current stone benefits and may not be the best stone for the players playstyle.
The Mundus Stone effect stays active on your character all the time. If you want to change your current Mundus Stone, you must find a different Mundus Stone and activate it. There are 13 different stones that can be chosen. They are found in the Base Game zones only. Each Alliance has their own location of each stone. Cyrodiil also has 12 of the 13 stones, with the lone exception being The Lord. Once a stone has been applied, it will remain until you change it to a different stone. In very rare cases the Mundus Stone effect might disappear because the developers reset all characters or changed how the Mundus Stones work. While this has happened 3 times since ESO launched, it is still worth checking your character sheet from time to time to ensure that your have a Mundus Stone active.
To check if you have a Mundus Stone effect active, simply navigate to the character stat page. Under the “active effects” section it should say “Boon: the specific stone you chose”. On this character I have The Atronach Mundus Stone active.
The effects of Mundus stones can be amplified by the Devine trait. ESO gear can have extra perks attached to the called traits. The active effect can vary depending on what quality of gear you are wearing. Please check out the trait page to see the gear quality values.
While we are on the subject of gear, lets also mention the Twice-Born Star set. This set gives your character the ability to have two active Mundus Stones at the same time. This is the only way to have more than one Mundus Stone attached to your character. However, this set should only be worn as jewelry and armor, because if you have this on the weapons (front barred) and switch to a different weapon (Maelstrom/Black Rose Prison/etc.) on the back bar, your second Mundus Stone will fall off. If this happens you will have to reactivate it at the Mundus Stone. This would be impossible to do in an instanced zone such as a trial or group dungeon.

You can also have Mundus Stones as furnishings in your home. These can be purchased from the Crown Store in the housing editor. The cost is 4000
per mundus stone. Rarely do the Mundus Stones go on sale, but when they do you can pick them up at a small discount. Often player guilds do have Guild Houses with all the Mundus Stones present, and each member will have access to the Guild House. This is an easy way to change your Mundus Stone as they are all in one place.
