FACTIONS AND RACES

FACTIONS determine your character’s fealty in the Elder Scrolls Online.  There are 3 different factions, DAGGERFALL COVENANT (DC), EBONHEART PACT (EP), and ALDMERI DOMINION (AD)

These factions rule over different parts of Tamriel and the races that naturally reside there.  Choosing a faction will limit your ability to choose your characters race to 1 of the 3 races naturally residing in that region.

The faction you choose also dictates your home cities and starting zones for the base game questlines.  Aside from your starting locations and races, the most important aspect of your faction is which banner you fight for in the Player Versus Player (PVP) Campaigns.

The Imperial City (IC) and Cyrodil are being torn apart by Daedra and the 3 Banners War.  In each of these zones, Cyrodil and IC, you will only be able to team up with those of the same faction.  Any other faction is an enemy and can/will attack you.

Lets take a look at the 3 different factions and the races for each.

DAGGERFALL COVENANT (DC)

The DC encompasses the peoples of northwest Tamriel – Bretons, Redguards, and Orcs – to form an alliance for the mutual defense of their homelands.  The are led by High King Emeric, from the city of Wayrest in Stormhaven.  The base game zones of Stros M’Kai, Betnikh, Glenumbra, Stormhaven, Rivenspire, Alik’r Desert, and Bangkorai make up the DC, as well as the expansion zones of Wrothgar and Hew’s Bane.

Breton

Bretons are heavily focused on Magicka.  They make excellent healers and Magicka-based Damage Dealers.  The also get a bonus to spell resistance and reduced magicka cost.

Suggested roles:

MAGICKA DPS; HEALER

Redguard

Redguards are heavily focused on martial combat.  With bonuses to Stamina and weapons, they make great Stamina Damage Dealers and good Tanks.

Suggested roles:

STAMINA DPS; TANK

Orsimer (Orc)

Orcs are big ferocious characters with a strong affinity for melee combat.  Orcs get a bonus to health and stamina making them great damage dealers and tanks.

Suggested roles:

STAMINA DPS; TANK

EBONHEART PACT (EP)

The EP encompasses the north and eastern parts of Tamriel.  The Nords, Dunmer (Dark Elves), and Argonians all are native to that region.  They are led by Jorunn the Skald-King from Mournhold in Deshaan.  The base game zones of Bleakrock Isle, Bal Foyen, Stonefalls, Deshaan, Shadowfen, Eastmarch, and the Rift make up the EP, as well as the expansion zones of Vvardenfell, Murkmire, Skyrim, and Blackwood.

Nord

Nords are very resilient as they hail from the cold mountains of Skyrim.  They make Great tanks as they have increased resistances, stamina, health, and ultimate generation.

Suggested roles:

TANK; STAMINA DPS

Dunmer (Dark Elf)

The Dark Elves are a true Hybrid race.  They can be any role in the game as they have increases to both Magicka and Stamina, fire resistance and damage.

Suggested roles:

MAGICKA DPS; STAMINA DPS; TANK; HEALER

Argonian

Argonians are the ideal race for healers and a good option for tanks.  Argonians get an increase to health, magicka and healing.  They also have the unique ability to regain resources when they drink a potion.

Suggested roles:

TANK; HEALER

ALDMERI DOMINION (AD)

The AD encompasses the peoples of the southern portion of Tamriel.  The Altimer (High Elves), Bosmer (Wood Elves), and Khajiit are ruled by Queen Ayren of Elden Root in Grahtwood.  The base game zones of Khenarthi’s Roost, Auridon, Grahtwood, Greenshade, Malabal Tor, and Reaper’s March make up the AD as well as the expansion zones of Summerset and Elsweyr.

Altimer (High Elf)

The High Elves are heavily focused into Magicka playstyles.  They boast the highest raw Magicka stats and spell damage.  High Elves tend to be a pretensious and rude bunch.

Suggested roles:

MAGICKA DPS; HEALER

Bosmer (Wood Elf)

The Wood Elves are inclined to be stamina-based characters that focus on speed and stealth.  They have increased stamina, stamina recovery, and speed.  They make great bow build characters.

Suggested roles:

STAMINA DPS

Khajiit

The Khajiit are the other really good Hybrid race.  They get bonuses to Health, Magicka, and Stamina as well as recovery for each.  They also are great at sneaking and doing critical damage/healing.

Suggested roles:

STAMINA DPS; MAGICKA DPS; HEALER; TANK

ANY FACTION

Imperial

Imperials make the ideal tanks.  The have bonuses to Health and Stamina, as well as a cost reduction on all of their abilities.

Suggested roles:

TANK; STAMINA DPS

NOTE: Imperials can be any alliance and must be purchased from the crown store with the DIGITAL IMPERIAL UPGRADE 2100 .

CHANGING RACES OR FACTIONS

If you want to change your race, you may only change it to a race of your faction with a RACE CHANGE TOKEN purchased from the crown store (3000 ) or given out when the game developers significantly change the racial traits.  A RACE CHANGE TOKEN allows you to change the race and appearance of your character, while keeping your progress.  You CANNOT change your class, only your race.  These tokens are a one-time use.

If you want to change your Alliance, you may only do so with an ALLIANCE CHANGE TOKEN (2500 ).  This is also purchased from the crown store.  This keeps your character’s race and changes you from your current faction to a different faction of your choice.  These tokens are a one-time use.

If you want to create or change the race a character, to a race not of your faction, you can only do so with the ANY RACE, ANY ALLIANCE BUNDLE purchased from the crown store (2000 ).
